Orange Juice Concentrate A National Pride
September 2, 2010 on 5:46 am | By admin | In Food and Drink | Comments OffFrozen Orange Juice Concentrate or FOJC was created soon after reliable refrigeration designs were invented. In the old times of orange juice, industry generally counted on salvaged fruits. Most of these fruits however had been no good for normal usage since most had been in poor condition, blemished or damaged.
All of the advances in pasteurization along with the creation of porcelain lined containers during the 1930’s produced improved juice quality and the juice business greatly expanded. In the mid 1940s, scientists found out a method to concentrate fruit juice inside a vacuum and freeze it without spoiling the vitamin content and taste.
Frozen orange juice concentrate offered the soldiers of the second world war tasty and nutritious beverage. This became a real hit on the American public and shortly after, it spread around the globe. After World War II, the sales of FOJC increased since the majority of Americans have now discontinued creating their own personal juices.
More recently, the frozen orange juice business have noticed a remarkable development around the globe due to the development of technological innovation in product packaging as well as the convenient use of mass transportation.
Oranges are extracted in great quantities when making frozen orange juice concentrate. To help to make the juice concentrated, heating and vacuum is utilized to eliminate the water.
Sugar levels in oranges are calculated with a “brix scale”. When marketed to customers, the brix level of orange juice concentrate is at 42. Adding h2o to the concentrate to liquefy orange juice will bring the brix level down to 11 or 12. Frozen orange juice concentrate is three times more concentrated than standard orange juice.
Generating FOJC however isn’t as difficult as you would picture. It can be made inside the convenience of your own house.
Let me reveal exactly how to make it work:
To begin with, pour fresh orange juice in a small necked plastic-type container just like a jug. Give room for expansion, cover and deep freeze. If the juice is fully frozen, take away the cover and hang the container inverted over one more container. Enable the frozen orange juice thaw drip by drip into your lower container until eventually there is simply ice left. Just discard the ice as you wouldn’t need that anymore.
Next, put back the segregated juice into your vacant jug and simply do the freezing and dripping method two more times to form a fine concentrate.
Lastly, store the orange juice concentrate inside of a jar or put it in ice trays and freeze once more. You now have a home made frozen orange juice concentrate to enjoy at any time you like. Try it for yourself and enjoy!
